Cast Call: Lead Actor for Social Spark’s New Mockumentary Social Media Series
We’re producing a short-form sitcom about a 20-something freelance UGC creator trying to “make it.” Think The Office, but for TikTok and Instagram.
The Inspo
We’re creating a brand-new mockumentary comedy series for TikTok and Instagram that’s basically The Office meets London creator culture.
The show follows the chaotic, hilarious, and strangely relatable life of a 20-something freelance content creator trying to “make it” in the UGC world. She’s ambitious, confident, and always convinced she’s on the edge of going viral… but things never quite go as planned. Whether it’s a failed brand collab, a dodgy self-tape filmed in her messy flatshare bedroom, or an awkward attempt at networking in a London café, the comedy comes from watching her try so hard — and somehow get it hilariously wrong every time.
But here’s the twist: the show isn’t just about her work. Like any good sitcom, we get to see her wider life too — navigating flatmates, friendships, bad dates, and the highs and lows of being a 20-something in London. It’s about hustle, ambition, cringe moments, and the kind of humour that only comes from trying to figure life out in your twenties.
The main character is endearingly awkward but super relatable. She’s funny, optimistic, and just chaotic enough that you root for her no matter how many mistakes she makes. She’s not a polished influencer — she’s the anti-influencer: a real person making hilarious missteps in the world of brand deals, algorithms, and viral trends. And that’s what makes her story feel authentic.
Over time, we’ll watch her grow. In the early seasons she’s grinding as a freelancer, learning the ropes (and failing a lot). But eventually, the storyline builds toward her landing her dream job — working with us at Social Spark. That’s when the series evolves into a workplace comedy about agency life, filled with client chaos, brainstorming sessions, and the behind-the-scenes drama of the marketing world.
This series is built to feel like your new favourite binge-able TikTok show — funny, fast, and rooted in the reality of Gen Z hustle culture. And the best part? The main character’s journey will actually collide with the real world through brand collaborations, product placements, and partnerships woven into the storyline.
We’re looking for the right actor to bring her to life: someone funny, expressive, and comfortable playing awkward in the most relatable way. If you’ve ever laughed at The Office, cringed at Fleabag, or thought “that would be me” when watching TikTok comedy skits — this might just be your dream role.
The Series
The Role
Character:
You’ll be stepping into the shoes of our lead character — a relatable, funny, self-assured 20-something UGC freelancer who genuinely believes she’s always “one hook away” from going viral. She’s ambitious, a little chaotic, and endlessly optimistic, which makes her both hilarious and loveable. The role is comedic at its core, but it’s also about building a character that people really root for and connect with.
Format:
Episodes are short, snappy, and perfect for TikTok and Instagram — usually 30–60 seconds long. The style is inspired by The Office and Modern Family, with talking-head confessionals, awkward pauses, and handheld camera zooms that bring out the humour in everyday life. Think mockumentary meets Gen Z creator culture.
Commitment:
We’re looking for someone who can commit to 1 – 2 filming days per month. Filming days are flexible and can be weekdays or weekends depending on schedules.
Compensation:
This is a paid acting role. You’ll receive a set day rate for filming plus additional pay for prep time (e.g. table reads, light rehearsals, self-tape confessionals). The initial contract is for 6 months, with an option to renew if the series continues to grow (which is our goal). Payment is clean and straightforward — you’re paid for your time, with invoices expected after each shoot day.
Location:
Filming will take place primarily in Greater London and surrounding areas. Public spaces like parks, cafés, and high streets will feature often, but one of the key locations will be your own home. We’re looking for someone happy for their flat/bedroom/kitchen to be part of the show — it doesn’t need to be perfect, but it should feel like an authentic young London space we can film in.
Where it lives:
The series will be released on Social Spark’s TikTok and Instagram channels, with episodes structured as a binge-able, ongoing show. Over time, brand partnerships will be integrated naturally into the storyline (e.g. your character being hired for a “brand collab” that’s actually a paid placement). This means your performance won’t just entertain — it’ll also help us build a new kind of marketing series where comedy meets real-world collaborations.
You’ll be great if you…
Are available regularly: We’re planning one main filming day per month for at least the next 12 months, with the hope of extending beyond that as the series grows.
Are reliable with call times: Comedy comes from rhythm, and we need someone who can show up on time, prepared, and ready to jump into character.
Have a filmable home space: A bedroom or living room in your flatshare that can double as the character’s set. It doesn’t need to be perfect — just authentic and workable on camera.
Are comfortable being the comedic centre of attention: You’ll need to play big, awkward, or exaggerated moments with confidence, without being afraid of looking silly on screen.
Can act improvised comedy in a mockumentary style: Think talking-head confessionals, handheld zooms, awkward pauses, and quick reactions to everyday chaos.
Are comfortable filming in public: Much of the humour will come from shooting in real London spaces (parks, cafés, streets). We’ll often film guerrilla-style, so you’ll need to embrace being in character while people are around.
Casting Timeline
Apply with details, headshot, and two short self-tapes (see Brief below).
Shortlist invited to a remote chemistry read.
Paid test day on camera (half-day).
Offer & contract (6-month initial term; fixed day rates).
Table read + pilot block.
Your Self-Tape
Record two vertical videos (30–60s each):
Tape A – Confessional:
“Explain why this is the year you’ll become the UK’s top UGC creator. Cite ‘the algorithm’ as if it’s a mentor. End with an earnest but terrible content tip.”
Tape B – Product Moment (use any household object):
Pretend it’s a brand gift. Unbox it with way too much ceremony, mispronounce the brand, pitch three hooks in 10 seconds, and accidentally reveal a messy background. Stay in character.
Upload both files or unlisted links in the form.
